My Video at The Balsams:

Profile: I was born in Basel, Switzerland and, after a brief move to Bangkok, Thailand, moved to The United States in the year 2001. Since then I’ve also lived in Rome, Italy, so I am used to adapting to all sorts of situations and building relationships with a variety of diverse individuals from many different backgrounds. Athletics have shaped the person I am, and there is no athletic activity that I wouldn’t try. I’m an avid soccer player, having played for four years in college. I also play tennis, golf, table-tennis, and basketball. My other passion is music, and I am lucky enough to call myself a recording artist, having written, recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered my own albums, one of which is available on itunes. I play multiple instruments and I sing as well. As a philosophy major, I am no stranger to authorship. Last year I completed a 75 page thesis in the aphoristic style concerning Friedrich Nietzsche’s views on religion and morality and how they are interpreted in a modern setting. I have a very respectable Youtube following, and am proficient in all the major social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter. I currently am also running my own blog, chronicling my experiences on a music-based cross-country tour. I speak four languages and am fairly proficient in two more. Engaging and creative, outgoing and organized, I am the perfect candidate for your position of Inn-Bedded Resorter.

How many years of experience do you have in PR & marketing? 3

How did you learn about The Balsams’s Inn-Bedded Resorter contest? My sister had stayed at The Balsams and receives the newsletters. She knew I was looking for work and notified me of the opening.

I am also running my own website (martinearley.com), as well as my own Reverbnation, Ourstage, and CdBaby pages, and all of them have a considerable following. I have recently created a Twitter account in order to promote my music, and my followers have increased considerably on a daily basis. If you were going to be on a reality TV show, which of the following would it be?

Being a contestant on American Idol would make the most sense for me, simply because I am a musician. I would like to consider myself to be a very dynamic and multi-faceted individual and that, coupled with my musical talent, could serve me very well in that competition. Plus, I would be lying if I said that I didn’t want to meet Ellen DeGeneres.

What is your favorite viral video and why?

My favorite viral video is (quite appropriately) called “Falling Baby.”  It amazes me how something so simple and insignificant can cause so much unadulterated joy, and it causes me to remember to keep things in perspective without taking things too seriously. From a social media standpoint, this video is a true testament to the fact that production and professionalism are not completely necessary in order to create a viral hit. The subject of your video just has to be appealing to the general public, and I believe you would be hard pressed to find someone who wouldn’t crack a smile at the sight of a little boy laughing so much that he helplessly topples over.

Please write a short paragraph about what you had for dinner last night: As I write this I am somewhere between Los Angeles and San Diego. Having been on a cross-county tour in a camper for the last two weeks, it should not be too difficult to imagine that my dinners have been a step below the 5-Star dining experience. Having said that, this is the culinary masterpiece I created last night: First Course: Pumpkin Crème Soup with basil and Italian herbs. Yes, it came out of a bag. Yes, I overestimated the amount of water it would need, and yes, it was tremendous. Second Course: Farfalle with a spiced tomato vegetable sauce and homemade garlic bread, topped with fresh Parmesan. The shortcomings of the first course were rapidly corrected in this simple, yet hearty entrée. Every bite included the perfect mixture of pasta and sauce, and the whole dish was perfectly spiced – a true delight. I complemented the second course with a fine Montana pale ale. Dessert: No meal is complete without a fitting dessert, so I treated myself to a small bar of authentic Swiss chocolate. It may be simple, but any chocolate lover would attest to the fact that the Swiss know what they are doing when it comes to chocolate.

Write a short paragraph about your favorite restaurant: My favorite restaurant is Young’s Lobster Pound in Belfast, Maine. This busy local pound is located directly by the harbor side and it is everything a seafood lover could ask for. Any visitor to Maine should experience lobster like this – locally caught and stored in tanks big enough to hold over 30’000 lobsters. There is enough seating for up to 500 people, and the dock-side setting even allows customers to tie up their boats directly in front of the restaurant. Always teeming with people from all corners of the world, Young’s fosters an inviting atmosphere while giving the customer a truly authentic sense of what it is like to enjoy lobster in Maine. Oh, did I mention they also serve fresh mussels, clams, king crab legs, halibut, haddock, cod, scallops, and sole? It is absolute seafood heaven.

Write a short paragraph about your favorite vacation as a child: One of my favorite vacations as a child was spent at Club Med in Sicily, Italy. While I have been on many family vacations, this one stands out in my memory because of all of the activities that the resort made available to me. I participated in as many things as I could, and was able to try things that I had never tried before. Between soccer, golf, in-line skating, tennis, archery, swing dancing, and table-tennis, it was almost difficult to find time to spend by the pool. Apart from the plethora of activities that were begging for me to indulge in them, the food was simply unparalleled in both taste and presentation. Breakfast buffets included everything a breakfast lover (like myself) could ask for, from Belgian waffles to strawberry-stuffed mango in milk. While breakfast was my favorite meal, the others did not disappoint. Incredible buffets were aligned with high-class restaurants and bistros overlooking the Sicilian cliffs and the Mediterranean Sea. It is no surprise that this vacation still holds a very special place in my memory.

Having known Martin most of his adult life, and much of his childhood, I can safely say that this is the ideal position for him. Martin’s ability to relate to all people – rich, poor, foreign, young and old makes him a perfect candidate. His writing skills matched with his never ending humor makes his writings not only easy to follow but enjoyable. Martins journeys throughout the world have made him a well-rounded and polished individual who has proven himself to conquer any challenges he’s faced. I’m sure when Martin is picked as your Inn-bedded Resorter, not only will he blow your expectations out of the water but when the two months are up, you’ll be searching for any kind of position to place him in just to keep him around. Good Luck!

Charley Earley

This is my son, of whom I am quite proud, Martin excells at anything he sets his mind to, is balanced and mature without becoming distracted from the essentials of academics, athletics and artistic endeavors… if I were you I would hire him, not because he needs the work, but because your organization will surely profit from his multi-faceted abilities to understand life, express himself, draw an enthusiastic audience, help people take notice of their surroundings in a brand new way and smile. Besides, he could compose, arrange, perform and record a killer jingle for your fine establishment.

Joe

Count me as one of Martin’s loyal youtube followers. He is multi talented, has a dynamic personality and is a gifted entertainer. In my opinion he would be perfect for this role and would be an asset to the Balsams.

Dan Edwards

Reading Martin Edgar Earley’s profile was just a half hour of pure enjoyment

Having read the profiles of all five Inn-Bedded Resorter Finalists, and having stayed at the Balsam’s Resort on two occasions in the past few years, I can definitely say that Martin will be the best fit for this position. He has a passion for all the activities you offer and a great command of many social media outlets. My vote will go to Martin!

Martin

Thanks for all the comments guys – I really appreciate it! I’ve had a blast here at the Balsams today and I really hope I’ll be able to return for the summer!

Jeremy Roberts

I can honestly say that I barely know Martin. However from my brief encounters with him, I have realized that he is the man. At one point he taught me how to speak German. At another point he dazzled me with his talent as a musician. Thank you Martin your blog has inspired me once again

A.P

Knowing Martin for almost a year I have come to see what an amazing person he is. He is always the first person to offer help to some one in need not to mention his incredible talent for reading and constantly entertaining people. He is extremely outgoing and approachable and i have the upmost confidence that he will excel at any task he is given. Spending most of his time outdoors, writing music, and entertaining friends and or complete strangers Martin would be a perfect fit for this position. GO MARTIN!

Kate Stinnett

I’ve looked at all of the candidates, read each of their stories and their qualifications and I must say, to me, Martin stands out above the rest. He appears to be very personable and likeable. The Balsams have done a fine job on choosing these 5 highly qualified candidates. Good luck to each and every one of you.

Sara Jane

Who wouldn’t hire Martin after seeing this. Strong applicant with a great sense of how to present himself to the public…. so, just think what he could do for The Balsams. He gets my vote.

Karen R

Having followed Martin’s unique global escapades as a family friend, “from the outside, looking in” over the past decade, it thrills me to see who he’s become and what adventurous new chapter he’s bidding on next. Martin’s a young man of multitudinous talents, contemporary & communicative adaptability, and boundless energy ~ all of which seem ideally suited to make him your first Inn-Bedded Resorter.

Having explored the entries of all five (fine) finalists, the objectively clear choice is Martin Earley… he’s SO engaging & entertaining! I’m about to cast my vote for him, and suggest everyone do the same.

Monykah Dowling

Martin got my vote for a lot of reasons; yes sure I am biased because he is a dear friend. That is why I read every other candidate’s blog so I could honestly say Martin is your best choice. I have never met a more balanced, enthusiastic individual. He has always known how to present himself by measuring whatever audience he will have, whether it be friends and family, performance of many kinds, or a public appearance he can wear the hat that goes with it and make you think he’s done it a time or two before. His talent is exactly what you need at The Balsams. I mean… did you see his application video!? I think you have the answer there.

Jon Ayers

Sounds like the perfect fit. Super creative individual!

Danny

Having watched martin for 3 years and played with him on multiple occasions i can tell you that martin is the perfect fit for anything you need. He can play to any crowd and has some of the best songs you will ever hear. I swear martin is playing on my ipod 90% of the time.

Nicholas Farber

Martin is one of those people you meet once every few years that really leaves an impression on people with his humor, creativity, and all-around awesomeness. He has a certain “je nais se quoi” that makes you want to be in his presence. I highly recommend Martin for this position.

blaine

Martin is awesome and I love him so I am going to vote for him and everybody else should too!! Good luck martin

Phillip Pitula

I am the Town Manager of the village of Winterport Maine where Martin and his family decided to settle down. I would point out the support you see Martin receiving via numerous posts as a testament to his character and the lasting impression he has made on everyone he has come in contact with. That alone should sway the Balsam Resort Committee to offer this fine young man the position, believe me you won’t regret it.

Cindy

Martin is definitely the most creative! As an artist I appreciate his creativity. I’ve stayed at the Balsam’s before and I believe that Martin would be a great candidate to put the Balsam’s on the map!

Mary and Greg Goodman

Martin is the best candidate for the job at the Balsams. Such a talented, creative young man with potential to make The Balsam’s even more inviting than it already is. Vote for Martin! I did!

Steven Luria

How could you not vote for this guy?! He’s the whole package; young and energetic and eager to make a statement. What a song! Whatever the outcome, Balsams should make that song an anthem!

joan bowman

Dawn Huston

Martin would be perfect for the job!!!

Daniel

I’ve known Martin for just over six years now and his accomplishments still astonish me as he continues to expand his horizons. Martin is the definition of the quote “You can do anything you set your mind to.” He is a very diverse individual who won’t only do his best but will be the best. Don’t pass up on having Martin apart of your team, It is a chance of a life time to meet someone of his stature, just as it is for him to be your Inn-Bedded Resorter

Leslie B

I do not know Martin but have known of him from YouTube and read his latest adventures on theroadmapstour blog. If you are looking for someone who can reach people with a gift of writing that can make readers want to be where he is enjoying everything you have to offer, Martin has everything you need. I’ve read the other applications to be fair and voted for Martin.

Kaitlin O’Connor

Rhonda Besaw

After looking at all of the other applications, Martin has my vote. He is proficient in on line marketing, is well traveled and athletic. I like how he put the link to his favorite video right in his application so I didn’t have to search for it myself. Good luck Martin!

Matty Gemme

Martin Earley is a very talented and dedicated man that would be perfect for this job. Being an avid blog reader and having one friend already in the professional blogging business, I can honestly say that Martin has the skills and personality to provide smart, entertaining material that many people can relate to. With that being said, I’d like to cast my vote for Martin – I know he’ll do great.

Martin

Thank you so much for all your support! Your votes mean the world to me, and I really appreciate all of this positivity! I’m very happy you’ve all taken the time to help me out with this!

Devin Mauch

I’ve known Martin for 3 years now and he is an inspiring individual. I just got off a month long national tour with him where we made a point of making connections with people everywhere we met. Martin is particularly good at creating positive relationships with others. When we heard about this job opportunity for him while we were on the tour, my initial reaction was simply that he would be perfect for this. His skills with social media, writing, people in general, and his overall positive outlook on life make him the best candidate for this position. Vote for Martin!

Jenn

I’ve known Martin for the past 4 years, and I believe that he would be a great fit for this job. He’s not only brilliant, but also musically gifted, and would be such a treat for your guests and staff alike. He’s a pretty funny guy, and very well versed. He’ll probably become famous one day, so you should snatch him up now, so that you can look back and say that Martin Earley worked for you! Huge selling point! Good luck Martin, I’m sure you’ll do great.

Martin

@ Devin – Thanks a lot. I know this whole thing kind of threw a stick into the spokes of our touring bicycle, but you know it means a lot to me and your support is very important to me. Thanks!

Tyler Hebert

Hmm.. I think his application says it all. He somehow found the time to come up with a song with two verses and a chorus while on a nationwide tour. I’ve known Martin since freshmen year of college and have marveled at his multifaceted talents. I have performed alongside Martin at various shows and I am a true fan of his music. I think if you choose Martin he will bring your organization real value, whether it be with social media or marketing.
The real question is not whether Martin should be picked it is whether you can afford not to pick him.

PKT

Martin, May the Balsam’s discover all your gifts and talents. My son graduated with a degree in philosophy a month ago. This, from us both: “On the mountains of truth you can never climb in vain: either you will reach a point higher up today, or you will be training your powers so that you will be able to climb higher tomorrow.” -Friedrich Nietzche (my son’s favorite philosopher, as well) GOOD LUCK, MARTIN!

Martin

@ Jenn & Tyler – thanks for the kind words…you guys are awesome! I really appreciate your votes and comments!

Charley

Regarding your presentation video, very nice third verse there Martin, it exhibits your keen powers of observation, a personable ability to digest (more than just a great meal), participation in your surroundings, enhanced composition, editing and publishing of your creative thoughts in short order, truly providing that interwoven interesting something for all ages at the Balsmas… the added musical touch is a bonus track of who you are… if I were the Balsmas PR Team I would be asking for the studio version right about now.

Karin

Martin has my vote! Good luck Martin :)

Martin

As the voting deadline approaches I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for supporting me so much. It’s been a real blessing to hear from you all, and I consider myself lucky to have your positive encouragement. Tomorrow we’ll see whether or not I’ve been chosen as one of the top three finalists, and then the first Inn-Bedded Resorter will be revealed later on, so stay tuned!
