Adventure Activites

A great way to experience our estate and wilderness is to enjoy one of our adventure-based activities. Please call ahead for pricing and availability. Below is information about Whitewater Rafting, Scenic Flights, Dog Sledding-on-Wheels,Horseback Riding and FlyFishing for Spring-Summer-Fall 2011

Running the whitewater of a river is fun for the whole family or as a camp for children and teens. Experiencing New Hampshire's whitewater will leave lasting memories.

Whitewater Rafting Trips

The Pontook Rapids below the dam on the Androsoggin River in summer is a great place to experience and learn to navigate whitewater in an inflatable rubber boat.

Custom Whitewater Rafting Trips

These trips run through the Thirteen Mile Woods on the Androsoggin River in Errol.

Teens and Kids Whitewater Rafting Camps

This is a special program setup just for kids and teens. Teens share the rowing and steering experience with their guide. Whitewater survival skills are an integral part of this learning experience.

 

Whitewater Kayaking

This activity takes place on the Androsoggin River just below the Umbagog Dam in Errol, New Hampshire. You will be using rubber kayaks (Duckies) on Errol Rapids Class II and III. This is an informative and educational whitewater introduction where principles of running whitewater will be taught. Once the skills are learned the group will be free to run the rapids as many times as they like. Shuttle Service is provided. Participants should bring a dry change of clothes.

Scenic Flying Adventures

Your flying adventure begins with a drive through "13 Mile Woods" following the Androscoggin River (on which massive "Log Drives" fueled the mills at Berlin in years gone by) to your plane at the Berlin airport. Our scenic flights allow an eagle's view of the Connecticut River, then East over The BALSAMS, Dixville Notch and Errol.

Our flights are 30 minutes in duration, allowing 15 minutes extra for boarding and briefing.

Operating daily from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Our scenic flights originate and return to Berlin Airport.

Price per person is $59. We accept Cash, Visa, Master Card and Discovery Card.

Summer 2011 Details.

"Rolling Dog Sled Adventures"- 5-7 Participants, Approximately 1 hour

Anticipated Cost- $45 Adult,  $35 Children

During this 1 hour experience, modeled after Muddy Paw Sled Dog Kennel's "on the snow" adventures, participants will have a hands on, authentic, dog sledding experience without the cold!  Upon arrival, guest will "meet and greet" the dogs, learn about the winter and summer gear, help harness dogs and hitch the team, and go for an approximate 1 mile ride.  During the ride, guests will be invited to drive the "Rolling Dog Sled" (at musher discretion for the safety of guests and dogs).

 Summer Programs for 2011

Fiore Stables

The BALSAMS is pleased announce that Fiore Stables will be offering horseback activities for guests.  There is an opportunity for children ages 10+ and adults to participate in a horse camp for an entire week as well as trail rides and privates. Below is a description and dates the programs will be offered.

Fiore Stables Team Camp is available for children ages 10 and up who have an interest in horses and whose desire is to learn and enjoy spending time with the horses.  Each student will have a horse carefully selected for them based on their abilities.  The students will learn the responsibility of caring for that horse and everything that goes with it. 

Daily camp activities include a combination of educational and recreational activities such as: Stable management, safety instructions, classes in horsemanship, daily riding, games, movies, and other equine related activities.

The program is from Monday through Friday.  Time is from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Rain or Shine.

The BALSAMS will provide a box lunch each day for the guest. No box lunch is needed on Friday.  Friday is pizza day!  The guest should bring a change of clothes, shoes, sunscreen, bug spray.  The cost is $150 plus $40(box lunch)  plus The BALSAMS service charge ($27) for a total of $217.

August 8-August 19  Combination of Beginner and Advanced Riders

Lessons offered after 3:30 p.m.  Also on Saturday and Sunday as well! $50 per hour Trail Rides $60 per hour.  Advanced booking HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Fly-Fishing with Ken Hastings

Come join Ken Hastings on a Saturday morning to learn how to fly-fish at The BALSAMS.  Ken is a wonderful instructor coming to Dixville in July and August.  He conducts a complimentary lesson from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Mr. Hastings will be down at Lakeside for your needs.

Mr. Hastings is also willing to show guests techiniques up at Mud Pond!

Prior notice must be given in advance.

Ropes Course
