Spring Mountain Madness - March 26

Our vintage snowmobile event has gained popularity each year, and this year will be better than ever!  Sleds from the year 1973 and older will compete in several challenging events at our base lodge, which we will close to skiers, completely revamping the base terrain for this exciting event.  Back by popular demand is the timed race on the specially-designed course which surrounds the entire base area, featuring twists, turns, bumps and jumps.  Adding to the excitement will be a new event this year: a 2-up race on the same challenging course.  The final event is a crowd-pleasing favorite - vintage sleds will attempt to climb one of the steepest slopes our mountain has to offer.  Our renowned BALSAMS chefs will prepare a delicious BBQ lunch on the deck, and the beer and wine tent will offer a range of choices, including draft beer.

Make sure to bring the family to this fun-filled event; you’ll be amazed at what those old sleds can do!

Spring Mountain Madness is presented in association with: Pittsburg Ridge Runners, Colebrook Ski-Bees, and Umbagog Snowmobile Association

Snowmobiling Trails

Every mile of every snowmobile trail in Coos County is now mapped and marked for emergency services. There are signs at one-mile intervals on the trail, so in the event help is needed, find the nearest marker, which has the information you need to tell emergency personnel where to respond. Some of those markers have cards you can take with you when you go to find a telephone.

Over 100 miles of trails can be immediately accessed from The BALSAMS, with 1,500 miles beyond that to explore. During the snowmobile season, the trails are groomed nightly by the Swift Diamond Riders. Trail maps are available for purchase at The BALSAMS reservation desk.

The BALSAMS welcomes snowmobilers. We host the Easter Seals Ride-in, vintage races and poker runs, and have a part in the Sno-Deo, a Swift Diamond Riders event held at Coleman State Park. For guests and walk-ins, snow machines may park on the lawns, with trailers in designated parking areas. For every skill and every expectation, there is a snowmobile trail in the North Country for you.
